Experiencing a slump in your homemaking game? This homemaking day in the life will encourage you to get up and get things done!
Being a homemaker, I know there are times when we can feel uninspired. Getting ourselves out of these slumps on our own can be difficult, so I am sharing a random day in my life in the hopes of giving other homemakers a little inspiration!
In this post, you will follow along with me for a whole day of homemaking. From 7AM to 7PM, I’ll share the happenings in my day, and will give you a peek into my routine and lifestyle.
After reading this post, you’ll be encouraged to continue being the wonderful homemaker I have no doubt you are.
Inspiration In Homemaking
All homemakers have their own forms of inspiration. Whether it’s your partner, kids, music, podcasts, vlogs, or a combination of them all, homemakers need inspiration when it comes to keeping the home fires burning everyday.
Even with this inspiration, sometimes homemakers need a little boost when their homemaking souls get tired. Drawing ideas and inspiration from another homemaker’s routine can be helpful, and can provide fresh routine ideas that may help add some excitement back into your days. A lot of times, switching up your routine by making small changes can give you exactly what you need to reach your full potential as a homemaker!
In any job, inspiration is the driving force behind motivation, and the job of a homemaker is no exception! With being home all day and being the creator of our own schedule, it can sometimes lead to feeling “blah” and unmotivated. Finding a source of inspiration is helpful during these times, and I hope to be that for you today!
A Day In The Life: Homemaking
This is a random weekday in my life as a full-time homemaker. Some days are busier than this, as others are much, much less busy. It all depends on my schedule, what day of the week it is, and what tasks need to get done. If you are interested in my normal morning and afternoon routines as a homemaker, read my blogs, The Homemaker’s Morning Routine and The Homemaker’s Afternoon Routine.
Having variety in our schedules as homemakers is something that will add interest into our days. Planning things that may otherwise be out of the norm for you once or twice a week can fulfill this. On this day, I went to Sam’s Club, and perused for a couple of hours, which was my out-of-the-norm outing. Homemakers tend to be natural introverts for the most part, so a small outing like this is the perfect way to add variety into your day.
As homemakers, we sometimes feel like every minute of every day needs to be productively spent. This is an unfair standard to hold ourselves up to, and taking time each day to do something for yourself will help avoid wearing yourself out. On this particular day, I took time in the late afternoon to do some decorating and relaxing, which refreshed me before I went to cooking dinner.
Follow along with me as I navigate my day from 7AM to 7PM as a homemaker!
7:00AM
Get Out Of Bed ~ Coffee ~ Work Out ~ Breakfast
It took me a while to pin down an early morning routine that motivated me for the day. Lately, I have found what works for me, and it seems to help my productivity levels. Finding an early morning routine that makes you want to get up out of bed is important, and will serve as a positive kick-start to your day!
8:00AM
Get Ready
Getting ready does not take me more than half an hour on most days. I’m more of a natural girl, so don’t spend a ton of time applying make-up or doing my hair!
8:30AM
Sam’s Club Adventure
I say adventure because you never know what you’ll walk out of Sam’s Club with. I find it exhilarating, which leads me to believe I have officially entered adulthood. During this particular day, I bought a lot of products and food for the week ahead, and I also found some beautiful plant pots for my plant children. (5 pots for under $100- watta deal.) I also took some time to explore aisles I don’t normally go down, and found some items that I will definitely be repurchasing!
11:00AM
Get Home ~ Unload ~ Organize
Once I got home from Sam’s Club, I unloaded my truck, and brought all my goodies inside. Does anyone else realize how out of shape they are when they unload their Sam’s Club haul? Going up and down my porch steps with massive boxes definitely highlights my sad athletic abilities.
After I got everything inside, I took out all of my storage bins and began restocking them with what I bought. This took a while because I bought so much, and had to rearrange the way I had them previously organized. I also had to reorganize my pantries in order to make room for the new stuff, which led to a full on pantry clean-out.
12:30PM
Food Prep ~ Dishes
Time to prep dinner. On this night, I made a delicious chicken dish with a sauce, and an abundance of veggies. There were carrots, tomatoes, and celery in this dish, so I pre-chopped all of it in order to save time when actually cooking supper. If you want to read more about why I prep dinner so early, read my post, 7 Simple Homemaking Tips To Help You Keep A Tidy Home.
During this time, I also made myself lunch, and prepared my husband’s lunch for the next day. After all of this prep, I did the dishes and cleaned up the mess I had made.
2:30PM
Fridge/Freezer Inventory
My fridge and freezer were so full, and I wanted to know exactly what was in each so I could incorporate these ingredients into my meal plan for the following week. Sometimes I don’t realize how much food I have in stock, so every couple of weeks I like to pull everything out and make a list of everything that’s in there!
3:00PM
Weekly Meal Planning & Grocery List
One of my favorite parts of the week. I love sitting down and choosing which recipes I want to make in the upcoming week, and determining what ingredients I will need from the store. This is a time-consuming activity, but it sets me up so well for the next week, and I love doing it! If you want to learn more about making a weekly meal plan, check out my post, Beginner’s Guide: Meal Planning For The Week. If you don’t already meal plan, you will want to after reading this post!
4:00PM
Find Home For New Decor
My husband and I bought our first house about a year ago, and we are STILL decorating it and making it our home. It takes time, and I am now putting the finishing touches on it. I bought some cute decorative accents at a local store, and finally got around to placing them in their new homes.
4:30PM
Relax
Relaxing for me usually consists of some mixture of Gilmore Girls, reading, Pinterest, and online browsing. It’s a nice break in my day, and after doing all the tasks I did earlier, I enjoyed taking some time to do something low-key and relaxing.
5:00PM
Cook Dinner
With all my dinner ingredients already prepped, all I had to do was actually combine the ingredients and cook it. Even though my ingredients were prepped, it still took me about an hour to make this dish.
6:00PM
Serve Dinner
My husband gets home from work between 5:30 and 5:45, so I like to serve dinner closely after he gets home. We always eat within 20 minutes of 6:00 every night; sometimes earlier than 6, sometimes later.
7:00PM
Spend Time With Hubby ~ Nightly Clean Up
After dinner, my husband and I will spend time together for the rest of the evening. I will also take 20 or so minutes to clean up from dinner.
And that concludes my day as a homemaker! Thanks for following along, I hope I’ve provided you with some homemaking inspiration and motivation.
This post was all about a day of homemaking.
