Curious what a homemaker’s morning routine looks like? Learn about my daily morning routine as a young, stay at home wife.
Just like those who work full time, a homemaker’s day varies based on the tasks we must complete. Each day is a little different, but all in all, this is my daily homemaking morning routine. You will learn about some of the tasks I take care of as a homemaker, and how I time block and manage my morning. The tasks I list out are the priorities in my morning, and doing these things help my home run smoothly. As a homemaker, having a healthy and productive morning routine sets myself up for a successful day.
This post is all about the homemaker’s morning routine.
The Homemaker’s Morning Routine
6:30AM-8:00AM
Wake Up ~ Make Bed ~ Laundry ~ Drink Coffee
This is my favorite part of my morning. In the early morning hours, I like to take it slow. I wake up, make my bed, get laundry going, and drink my coffee. Since I am busy for the remainder of the day, I take this time to slowly enjoy my coffee. I will sometimes read with this, check the news, watch a tv show (Gilmore Girls is my forever comfort show), or catch up on vlogs. This relaxing time in my morning is a gentle reminder that most things are better when not rushed along. Yes, sometimes my coffee is cold by the time I finish it, but I still enjoy every single drop!
8:00AM-9:00AM
Work Out
I’ll say it upfront: I am NOT a gym girl. When I was in college, I had a Planet Fitness membership that I rarely used. I just don’t like the gym atmosphere, or leaving my house early in the morning for the gym. Especially in the winter. When it’s cold. You get the gist. I am not someone who does intense work outs, but I love to do gentle workouts every morning to keep myself healthy and in shape. Instead of going to the gym, I would much rather do a work out in the comfort of my own home. My workouts usually last about an hour, and I always feel so energized and good after! I always find work outs on Youtube, and rotate between different videos throughout the week that target different parts of my body.
9:00AM-9:30AM
Shower ~ Makeup ~ Get Dressed
Getting ready does not take me long. I am a minimalist when it comes to makeup, and really only wear the basics. For my hair, I let it air dry, and usually put it up in the afternoon. I don’t wear anything fancy since I usually stay home most days, but I believe getting ready sets me up for a productive day. Doing so makes me feel put together. Looking nice for myself and for my husband is important to me, but I don’t take up too much of my morning to do this.
9:30AM-10:30AM
Dishes ~ Laundry ~ Clean
As you can read in my post about 7 Simple Homemaking Tips, I choose to leave dishes from dinner in the sink until the next morning. This allows me to spend more time with my husband in the evenings. Because of this, I wake up to a somewhat chaotic kitchen, which I know would drive some people CRAZY. But the way I look at it is I would rather do the dishes when I am alone in the morning than when my husband is home in the evenings. Ignoring the dishes at night allows us to spend more quality time together, so I don’t mind the messy consequence I face in the morning! After this, I also lightly clean everyday surfaces around the whole house, and make sure everything is tidy.

Food Prep
This is something I love to do. I look at my dinner recipe for that night, and I like to prep as much of it as I can. You can read about how and why I do this in my post about 7 Simple Homemaking Tips. I just feel like prepping out all of my ingredients/chopping veggies/cooking chicken leads to a much smoother cooking process. It also helps me better time when dinner will be ready. We eat at 6 in my household, and when everything in the recipe is ready to go, it makes for a much easier and less time-consuming process. If supper that night is something that tastes better after simmering all day (like sauces, soups, & stews) then I will go ahead and make the whole meal, allowing the flavors time to meld and develop before serving it.
My husband works an office job, and I like to prepare his entire lunch for him. It’s a small gesture that I know makes a big difference in his day. (If you want more ideas on how to show your husband he’s appreciated, check out my post: 9 Attentive Things To Do For Your Husband To Make Him Feel Appreciated) I like to do this in the morning so that I don’t have to take the time to do it when we are ready to go to bed. It’s nice to just make it and forget about it until he packs it in his lunchbox the next morning.
Each week, I eat one consistent thing for lunch every day. This helps to keep things simple for me. It varies throughout the weeks, but I always like to prep it for myself so that when I am hungry around 12:30, I can just go in the fridge and grab it. This week, I have been eating chicken salad sandwiches with a handful of chips on the side.
I hope you were able to get some inspiration from seeing what my routine as a homemaker looks like. Everyone’s morning routine looks different, and even changes to reflect different stages of life. As my current morning routine may not follow me throughout my entire life, it works for me right now, and helps me lead a productive day!
