Small Decor Ideas
1. Soap Dispensers
I know, I know… a lot of us grew up with the plastic Softsoap soap dispensers (the ones with the little animals inside, (if you know you know) sitting on our sinks, and as it brings back a lot of nostalgia, they just don’t bring the same amount of joy they once did now that I have my own home. Plastic hand soap containers just don’t bring a luxurious feel to a home, and buying a glass/ceramic hand soap pump to replace it with is a small/inexpensive trade up that will definitely bring a new feel to your bathroom!
This is a small decor idea that will level up any sink. There are so many different options for hand soap dispensers, and choosing the right size, shape, pattern and color will add an elegant feel to your space. Plus, purchasing large refill bottles of hand soap is cheaper than constantly purchasing the small plastic pumps!
2. Hand Towels
Whether it be in the kitchen or bathroom, having decorative hand towels is a small decor idea that will liven up your space. With hand towels being fairly inexpensive, you can buy a couple and rotate them around. Having decorative hand towels instantly levels up your bathroom/kitchen, and can be a great decor piece.
3. Candles & Small Decorative Objects
No one can argue that a lit candle can make your home feel cozy, and not to mention smell great. With the hundreds of different scents out there, you are certain to find one that makes your home smell fresh and clean. There’s no better feeling than lighting a fresh smelling candle after cleaning your kitchen. Depending on the candle you choose, they can also be wonderful decor accents in pretty much any room! Taper candles in a holder are some of my favorite decor items, and add such elegance to a room.
Small decorative objects, such as bookends, bowls, books, wall art, and other, small decorative objects can have a large impact in your home. Stacked on one another, clustered together, or set apart, small decorative objects look good on many different surfaces. Having a multitude of colors, textures, and shapes will provide you with timeless pieces that you can rotate around your home!
4. Lighting
Lighting is so important in a home! It can completely change the feel of a room, and can create a cozy oasis to relax in after a long day. Lamps, both table and floor, are a great way to add ambiance to a room, and serve as pretty decor items. It is also important to have the right colored bulb in your lamps/ceiling lights; different colors can provide different feelings. I have more orange colored bulbs in my home than white, and it makes everything feel so much cozier than the white ones do. They feel much more relaxing.
In addition to lamps, adding sconces in your bedroom or living room is a really nice way to level up your space. Being able to cozy up in bed or on the couch with the light from a sconce is unbeatable! Being both functional and cozy, the use of different lighting options is a great small decor idea that will serve a great purpose all while being pretty.
5. Baskets
If you’re like me, you can get pulled into the basket aisle at Target for a loooong time. With so many shapes and sizes, you’re bound to find a useful one! Baskets can not only serve as a beautiful, small decor idea, but they can hide junk too! It’s a win win situation. Whether it’s a basket in your living room with blankets and pillows in it, or a basket on your bench that serves as a catch-all, you can never go wrong with the purchase of a basket. They also serve as a small decor item, and can fill up those awkward corners in your home!
6. Trash Can
Some of you might be thinking that a trash can is not decor. And I agree, HOWEVER, a nice trash can can really level up your kitchen/bathroom, and can make a usual eyesore into something that isn’t bad to look at. When we first moved into our home, we started off with an ugly, $8 trash can that had no lid. Since our trashcan was in plain sight in our kitchen, we decided to spend the extra money on a sleek, high quality trash can. Our kitchen looks 10x better, and so much more put together. The brand we purchased was simplehuman, and it is as stylish as a kitchen trash can can be!
7. Electric Fire Accent
Everyone loves to curl up in front of a fire, but many of us do not have a fireplace in our homes. A simple and relatively cheap solution for this is to purchases an electric fireplace accent. My husband and I purchased one at Tractor Supply for $100, and it is the cutest thing ever! It even helps to heat our little living room. It is the coziest piece of decor we have, and adds so much to our home. Another option is to purchase a tv stand that has a built in fireplace. These are also beautiful, and provide the same cozy vibe! There’s nothing better than curling up by our electric fireplace during a snowstorm with a mug of hot chocolate.
8. Throw Pillows & Blankets
Both are small decor ideas that will level up your bedroom and living room. Having throw pillows and blankets on your bed and couch add soft touches to your living space, and also serve as functional pieces. Swapping different pillows and blankets out for different seasons/holidays can serve as effortless seasonal decor, and are relatively cheap decor options. Plush throw pillows and blankets will automatically add luxury and comfort to your home!
9. Wallpaper
Having wallpaper is a big trend right now, and I don’t hate it. Subtle and neutral wallpaper patterns are always a safe choice, and can level up a small bathroom or bedroom. Having an accent wall with wallpaper is also a smart way to add pattern and texture to a room without overwhelming the area. Peel and stick wallpaper can be a great way to easily transform a drab space, and can be swapped out if you get sick of it down the road. There are so many companies out there who have beautiful and affordable wallpaper options for every style!
10. Plants & Flowers
Live or fake, plants & flowers add color and vibrancy to a space. I have four philodendrons in my home, and they bring so much life into our home. If you don’t have a green thumb, fake plants can still bring life into a home, as well as other artificial greenery such as trees and wreaths! Having fresh flowers from the store is such a treat, and I do this every once in a while. Having fresh flowers in my home feels so luxurious to me, especially in the spring time! I also love artificial flowers in vases/pitchers, and think they add a soft, feminine touch to my home.
11. Curtains
When my husband and I were renters, we did not want to go through the hassle or waste money on window treatments that would have to stay there when we left. We got used to bare windows and CHEAP curtains, but when we moved into our first home, I made it a priority to invest in quality curtains and curtain rods. The difference this made in our home was CRAZY. It added a nice level of privacy, and also made our home feel finished and beautiful. The addition of curtains really transformed our space, and they even filter the sunlight which results in much softer light spilling into our home. I never thought quality curtains and hardware could contribute to the coziness of a home, but now that I have them, I can confidently say that they absolutely level up our home!
12. Professional Family Photos
Professional photos are the main pieces of decor I have in our home. They are timeless, and can be printed in different sizes and put in different frames. Professional photos are so versatile, serving as a wonderful way to make your home feel personalized and special. My husband and I get professional photos done every year, and I love rotating all of them and hanging them throughout our home. Whenever I look at them hanging on our wall, it makes me so happy. It’s definitely a high quality small decor item that will level up your home.
