As a homemaker, I know that it can be easy to stay in the cuddly grip of my cozy bed a little longer than necessary. This especially happens on the days where my schedule is more open. Anybody can benefit from a healthy morning routine. As having a morning routine is important for everyone, it tends to be a bit more prominent for homemakers. Since homemakers have the freedom to create their own daily schedules, it can be easy to waste time in the morning and take it slow. As this is ok to do sometimes, the majority of a homemaker’s mornings should be structured, and should be led by a healthy morning routine. Coming up with morning routine ideas that work for you can be hard, so that’s why I’m doing the work for you!
Finding Your Morning Routine Rhythm
Every homemaker has different duties, priorities, and are in different seasons of life. What may work for my morning routine may be a total disaster for someone else, and what works for someone else may be totally inapplicable to my life! Building your morning routine should be customized to your life, and may take a while to fully build. These morning routine ideas will help you to fill in the gaps, and will help guide you in creating your dream morning routine.
Finding your morning routine will take a lot of trial and error, and may need to be altered as things in your life change. The beauty of creating your own morning routine is that you are able to shift it when and where you see fit. Life is ever changing, and therefore so must you! When it comes to creating your morning routine, just remember that no routine is absolutely perfect, and being patient with yourself throughout this process will lead to the most productive morning routine!

For The Productive Homemaker
The 7 morning routine ideas listed below are a combination of activities and duties that I have found helpful to incorporate into a morning routine in order for it to be both fulfilling and productive. As a homemaker who has taken 2 years to create my own morning routine, I am happy to share my secret morning routine ideas with you!
The order in which these morning routine ideas are presented is not necessarily the order in which you have to do them. Take some time to rearrange them in a way that best benefits you and your morning!
1. Something For Yourself
This morning routine idea is focused around YOU. Choose something you enjoy, something that fuels your mind and soul, and work it into your morning routine. This can be as simple or as complex as you wish! Starting your day off by doing something you enjoy will boost your mood, and will give you time to recharge before your busy day of homemaking. Taking some time each day to dedicate to yourself will fill your cup up enough to be able to pour from it again!

-Reading a chapter in your book
-Reading a couple of pages in your favorite magazine
-Doing part of a puzzle
-Reading the news
-Working in your garden
-Drinking coffee while watching your favorite show/vlog
These is just a handful of ideas to fulfill this morning routine idea, but the list goes on! You can switch this activity up day by day, just as long as it’s always something YOU enjoy!
This part of your morning routine should be just about half an hour. If we do something we enjoy longer than this in the morning, we may be tempted to keep doing it and to ignore the rest of our routine! Having a small dose of enjoyment in the morning is important, but so is sticking to your routine and getting your other duties done.
2. Something For Your Health
This morning routine idea revolves around health; both physical and mental. This part of your routine should reflect both parts of your health, and can involve two different activities. Taking care of your health as a homemaker is one of the best things you can do for yourself, for your partner, and for your home. When you feel good, you can better focus on your tasks, and can go above and beyond to make your house feel like a home!
Taking care of your physical health is always important, but taking care of your emotional health as a homemaker is extra important because it impacts every aspect of being a homemaker. When your mental health is struggling, you might have a smaller capacity to care for the things that mean the most to you. This might mean cooking less, helping your partner less, or not caring enough for your home. Staying on top of your mental health as a homemaker should be a priority, and should have a place in your morning routine!

There’s always something you can do that will make your future-self thank your past-self. Choosing something to do during your morning routine that will better your day is a great way to set yourself up for success. This part of your morning routine idea does not need to take a lot of your time, and can be a small task that will somehow benefit you later in the day.

Working these small tasks into your morning routine will create an easier afternoon for yourself, and will free up more of your time to dedicate to other tasks and priorities! Since these tasks are usually small ones, it may seem unnecessary to do them ahead of time. But, sometimes it’s the smallest of things that can make a difference in your day. The ideas above are just suggestions based on what betters my day. Only you know what would help you the most, and this might change from day to day!
4. Something For Your Home
After all, we are homemakers! Doing something for your home during your morning routine is a must. It doesn’t have to be something huge, but it should better your home and should leave it in a better place than it was before. As homemakers, we all know very well that there is ALWAYS something to be done in our homes. Incorporating some housework into your morning routine will give you a jump start on things, and will make you realize just how much more work you have to do during your day! This will keep you motivated to stay on track and to stay productive.

I’m just touching the surface with these ideas. There are so many different options when it comes to doing something for your home. Depending on what the rest of your day looks like, you can either choose to combine a couple of small tasks, or can indulge in one, larger task that you’ve been wanting to get around to.
5. Something To Organize Yourself
We all have our own organizational systems, but we all know that sometimes they need some love! Each morning, it is helpful to take some time to do something that helps you feel organized. Not only will this benefit your mind, but your home as well! You can choose to organize something in your home, in your schedule, or both! A combination of home and schedule organization is always helpful, and helps you center yourself for the day and create an agenda.

-Brain dump (this is what I call sitting down and writing down ALLLL the things on your mind. You can then organize it into categories and plug it into your planner where it fits.)
Taking the time in your morning routine to organize yourself will make your day go by more smoothly, and will help you avoid forgetting about something important! People sometimes underestimate the power of a simple planner, but we Type A’s know where it’s at.
6. Something For Someone Else
One of the joys of being a homemaker is having the time to do things for other people. Now, I will say- I live 350 miles away from a lot of my family, and I tend to be a loner when it comes to friends. With that being said, the person I usually do something for is my husband, because he is my #1 priority, and because he’s there for me to do stuff for. If I were closer to my family, I’m sure I would do more for them. But, for now, my husband gets all the attention. That’s not to say I can’t still do little things for them, because I do! I just can’t do the things I would normally do if I lived near them.
If you live near friends or family, trying to do something for someone else in your morning routine once or twice a week is a great way to show them that you’re thinking about them. The person you do something for does not have to be outside of your household: maybe the person you want to do something for is your partner or child. Whomever you choose, your kindness will be appreciated!

Like I mentioned above, this morning routine idea can be done once or twice a week rather than everyday. That might be a little much on you to do something like that daily, but doing it once or twice a week will keep you connected to and thinking about those who mean the most to you!
7. Something You Have To Do
The least fun of them all, but still important to incorporate into your morning routine. Doing so will keep you on top of your household administrative work, and will prevent it all from building up. Doing things we have to do is just a part of life, and doing a little bit every day will keep it manageable.
